Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Sheer Candy 'Lush Coconut' - Review

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Sheer Candy in 01 Lush Coconut, £23.50 in selected stores and online

The YSL Rouge Volupté range has been on my wishlist for some time now, so when I was on my way back from Berlin I took good use of the 3-hour delay and perused the duty free, eventually plumping for this beautiful, golden-toned nude.

Dupe-wise, this is a very similar texture and feel to the L'Oreal Rouge Caresse lipsticks (which people have compared to the Revlon Lip Butters; I would say the latter are much 'wetter' and glossier in texture), and this colour in particular is very much like the Rouge Caresse in Nude Ingenue, though more shimmery, multi-tonal and altogether a little less brown.

The packaging is gorgeous, although because the base colour of the band in the middle matches that of the product, this one is not quite as pretty packaging-wise as some of its counterparts, but in this instance I went for substance over style and went with the colour I thought I could get most wear out of. It's lovely for a light application during the day, and layering it up for an evening look gives it a whole new dimension. For me, it's classy and simple but nonetheless eye-catching and provides the perfect alternative for when you're not quite feeling the screaming blue-toned pink or smudge-prone red. I wore this at two pre-Christmas parties and on Christmas eve itself and thought it complemented a simple smokey eye really well.

At £23.50, this is eye-wateringly expensive for what is essentially a lipstick/balm hybrid in a pretty tube, but I'd absolutely repurchase as an occasional luxury and have already got my eye on some of the other shades.

Do you own any of the Rouge Volupte Sheer Candy lipsticks? If you've blogged about one of them, please leave me the link so I can swoon over them!
