Christmas Wishlist

Posted on: Tuesday, 27 November 2012

With the festive season well and truly upon us (once you've seen the Coca Cola advert, you know it's time to embrace it), I'm sure I'm not the only one already dreaming up my perfect Christmas presents. The 'big' present I've asked for this year is a Canon SLR camera so I can start blogging 'properly' - I've been loathe to photograph my products on my iPhone, so I have a whole load of written posts waiting for the accompanying photographs which will be up in the New Year.

Without further ado...

Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Mandorio di Sicilia Eau de Toilette, £63
The bottle on the wishlist above is misleading - although the one I'm after looks exactly the same, it's called 'Mandorio di Sicilia' (rather than Mirto di Panarea - there's five different scents under the Blu Mediterraneo umbrella, and all come in the same bottle). In my eyes, there's no perfume house that competes with the classy scents of Acqua di Parma, and it's one brand whose price tag I believe is utterly justified. I've always loved the sound of the Blu Mediterraneo scents, and when I received a sample vial of this with a recent Space NK order, I knew it was the one for me. Although the bottle and the whole Mediterranean idea are more reminiscent of summer, this is a fragrance I believe can truly cross over the seasons - it's just beautiful. Rather than attempt to describe the scent to you, I will give you the John Lewis jargon:
Sicily, where art and culture meet. The almonds, which are so characteristic of the area, are reproduced in a sweet caress that is Mandorlo di Sicilia. At its heart, the bright freshness of Chinese star anise, bergamot and orange blend with the soft encompassing notes of green Mediterranean almond and ylang-ylang. The base offers cedar wood, vanilla, Tolu balsam and white musk.
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl, £33
If Lisa Eldridge can't sell you a product, I don't know who can. I absolutely adore the effect of this priming/perfecting/highlighting product and have been desperate to get my hands on it for months. Hopefully Santa will be good to me this year, as I think this will be perfect for adding some much needed radiance to my skin in the cold, dry January and February.

Eve Lom Cleanser, £55 for 100ml
The cleanser that Vogue described as the best in the world, I'd be a fool not to include this! Whilst it's definitely wishful thinking as I can't imagine this will end up under the tree this year, and I'm very happy with my 90% full pot of Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm, this is something that's very much on my 'try before you die' list!

YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in Exquisite Plum, £23.50
This lipstick has been cemented into the annals of beauty blogging history, and after having a good nosy through them all in Boots the other day, this gorgeous plum colour is one that I am desperate to get my paws on. Everything about these lipsticks appeals to me, from the beautiful packaging to the creamy formula and tales of its long-lasting power.

NARS Blush in Sin, £21.00
NARS blushes are nothing new to me, but the brand remains my holy grail go-to for blushers, bronzers, foundations, lipsticks and lipglosses - I really don't think you can beat NARS. It's not cheap - hence why it's on my wishlist - but this blush is just a lovely, muted dusty rose colour and I really do think I need it in my life!

Tie-Dye 'Chelsea' Twistbands, £10.00 for 6
I fell in love with the Twistbands I received in the September JolieBox, and after seeing this lovely tie-dye collection I'm desperate to have them! By the looks of it you can't buy these specific ones in the UK, but I have linked to the JolieBox 'shop' where you can get a pretty decent selection. I can't say these are totally worth the money - after all it's a strip of elastic tied in a knot - but as gimmicky as they are, they do what they claim and I haven't stopped wearing mine. Hopefully this tie-dye set will be available for us Brits soon!

Japonesque Leopard Print Brush set
Well, after adding these to my wish list, I can't find these leopard-print brushes anywhere! (I'd wanted the Safari Chic set but saw these on beautysets and fell in love!) If anyone can let me know where I can get these ones specifically, I'll love you forever. If all else fails, I suppose the equally gorgeous Safari Chic brush set will do!

JolieBox November 2012

Posted on: Friday, 16 November 2012

JolieBox time again - I didn't post about last month's because to be honest I was so annoyed at having another bloody BalanceMe product in my box! Only so many times you can blog about the same thing...

This month's box is quite good - a 7/10 I'd say - so I'll get onto the contents, left to right in the picture...

Yardley Royal Diamond Eau de Toilette
JolieBox say: "Inspired by traditional English gardens, these dainty floral fragrances give you a lasting feminine scent."
Whilst getting perfume samples in a beauty box feels like somewhat of a con as they're easily picked up in department stores for free, I was quite excited to see a Yardley perfume. But alas I don't particularly like the smell - it's very floral but almost old-womany floral, and not very autumnal (I like darker, more gourmand scents in the wintery months). I will probably use this but it's not a real winner for me.

Jane Iredale Glow Time BB Cream
JolieBox say: "At last! A full coverage mineral-based BB cream. The lightweight, buildable formula gives skin flawless finish and protects with SPF 25."
BB creams seem to be really doing the rounds at the moment, and this is a pretty paltry sample sized sachet. I don't really buy the BB cream hype but I will try this out.

Dead Sea Spa Magik Gentle Cleansing Facial Wash
JolieBox say: "This mild cleanser uses a blend of natural ingredients to purify skin without overdrying. Use it mornings and evenings for a fresh, radiant complexion."
I'm always happy to have cleansers and this looks lovely. It's a generous 25ml size and I'll let you know how I get on with it!

Topicrem Body Glitter 3D Effect
JolieBox say: "Pair this pearly cream with your best party frock. The luxe lotion gives skin a shimmery - never sparkly - sheen."
I'm quite a fan of a shimmery décolletage so this will get good use over the festive party season. It's only a 15ml sample but generally with these sorts of products, a little goes a long way. The shimmer of this is quite intense and the colours are gorgeous - reds, greens, whites and blues (sounds a lot more garish than it is) - I can see this being well-loved!

Marvis Classic Strong Mint Toothpaste
JolieBox say: "Imported from Italy, these chic apothecary-style toothpastes come in imaginative flavours that make brushing your teeth anything but routine."
I'm glad I got the mint flavour of this - the others on offer are liquorice and cinnamon mint, both of which I can't really imagine brushing my teeth with! This is a lovely vintage style tube. Check out the JolieBox blog for more information about this company - it's really interesting!

Vertumne à Vénus Manucure Absolue - Moisturising & Regenerating Hand Cream
JolieBox say: "Formulated with all natural ingredients, including sesame oil and pomegranate extract, this rich cream keeps hands nourished all day."
See that tiny sachet? Yup, that's this. A measly sample but I can't complain as this is actually the 6th product in the box. I'll try it out but I don't think one use of a hand cream could justify it even if it was the holy grail of all hand creams!

Have you had your JolieBox yet? What did you think of it? Would you be happy with these products?
